Dr. Andrew J. Heritch, M.D.

Dr. Heritch is one of the founders of Heartland Behavioral Health (HBH). His treatment philosophy begins with accurate diagnosis, primarily through the clinical history. Once a diagnosis is determined, Dr. Heritch develops a treatment plan tailored to each individual patient’s needs. He specializes in prescribing medication but he does not ignore psychological and social aspects of mental health which strongly contribute to a clients’ overall sense of well-being. He works closely with Heartland’s counselors to address all the clients’ needs. By tailoring medication to the individual needs to the patient, he maximizes benefits and minimizes side-effects. He also discusses other aspects of treatment such as the cost and benefits of brand name versus generic medication.

Dr. Heritch received his medical degree in 1987 from St. Louis University . He did a psychiatric internship at the University of Washington in Seattle . He completed his psychiatric residency in 1992 at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He chose Medical College of Wisconsin because it offered a well balanced training program giving him a good understanding of both medications and psychotherapy. He has published several research papers and clinical case reports.

Dr. Heritch currently resides in the Peoria area with his wife of 22 years and two boys. His wife gave up her job as an attorney to home school their children and loves every minute of it. She too is very involved in community life (ie: attachment parenting groups).

Connie uses treatments that best suite the individual.

Carla Morris, MA, LCPC

I have been a professional in the field of counseling for more than 30 years. When I began my undergraduate degree, my field of study was Elementary Education. However, as I began to student teach, I realized I was drawn to children who needed a little extra help. I was able to get to know the families, and found that my true calling was working with those families to help remove the obstacles standing in their way, so they may function at their best and provide the nurturance and structure that their children needed. One of the quotes that has meant a great deal to me is, "There are two lasting bequests we can give our children. One is roots, the other is wings." So I completed my undergraduate work and went on to get my Master's degree in Human Development Counseling.

I consider it an honor to work with families and be trusted with some of their most personal of thoughts and feelings. I have worked in many modalities including inpatient settings within a hospital or residential program, in outpatient settings and within the child welfare system. I have worked with both adults and children in resolving grief and loss, adjusting to divorce or other life changes, managing depression, anxiety, attention deficit disorder, or autism. I have also worked with children who have been abused, neglected or suffered trauma and/or attachment difficulties and with children with disabilities.

We are all human beings who experience joys and sorrows, as well as successes and failures. We all have a unique background, a story to be told, a path in life, and strengths and limitations with which to work. And we all require a hand from time to time. I am both proud and grateful to have been given the opportunity and training to be able to help with social, emotional and psychological issues that get in the way of a person or family functioning at their best.
